"Don't tell me you're afraid."
D.J.'s eyes snapped at the taunt. "Hardly. I've just seen what people look like on the pavement after riding one of those."
"So have I. Believe me, D.J., I'm a safe driver. I'll get you there and back in once piece." He held out his hand. "Trust me."
She stared at his hand for a moment, then looked into his eyes. What she saw there must have convinced her, for she put the helmet on her head and climbed on the bike behind him.
"Where are we going?" she yelled over the roar of the Harley's engine.
"It's a surprise," he shouted back.
D.J. put her arms around his waist and fitted her thighs around his. Chris gritted his teeth against the warmth flooding through him at her innocent touch. Her breath tickled the back of his neck, and he twitched his shoulders. Tightening his resolve, he released the clutch and they shot forward, headed toward a place Chris hoped would end his fascination with D.J. Halloran before it raged further out of control.

D.J. climbed off the bike and yanked the helmet free of her chin, running a hand over her smashed hair as she stared at the building in front of them in trepidation.
